Eva's birthday fundraiser for affordable housing

I serve on the board of a great organization, the Madison Area Community Land Trust. We’re preserving urban space for community use and creating permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for those most affected by the skyrocketing housing market. Please join me in supporting their great work! 

Dane County is experiencing one of the hottest housing markets in the country. Median single-family home prices have increased by 9% over the past year, now exceeding $490,000. For the average family, this means homeownership is increasingly out of reach. To purchase a median-priced home in the county, a family would need an income of at least $150,000 — an impossible number for many of our neighbors. 

With support from the community, MACLT has developed 62 permanently affordable homes that we keep affordable for generations using a resale formula and ground lease. Low-income buyers save an average of $100,000 on their home purchase through MACLT. MACLT is selling our homes to families with incomes between $43,000 and $75,000, with a median home sale price of $187,000. That's less than half of the county median home sale price.  

We are bringing seven new affordable units into the land trust over the next year— 4 in Owl Creek, 2 in Mosaic Ridge, and 1 condo unit at the Village Co-Housing Community. MACLT is also working on plans to develop affordable townhomes at the Voit property on Madison's eastside. As we add more homes to the land trust, we create more opportunities for families looking for a stable and secure place to live – opportunities that will still be there for the next family, and the next family.
