Justice for Migrant Families is an organization that I love with my whole heart. JFMF is the embodiment of our movements' motto of "stopping the bad" AND "building the new". From the beginning, and even before then, the folks at JFMF have been putting in the work to support migrant families with care, love and a dedication that is beyond words. JFMF is love in action. JFMF is solidarity in action. JFMF is building the world I want to live in with all of my neighbors.
Back in 2016 when the Buffalo 25 raids happened here in the City of Good Neighbors, a ragtag group of organizers opened our doors and our hearts to kick off a whirlwind campaign that seeded the ground for what Justice for Migrant Families is today. Back then, a large number of Buffalonians thought that undocumented people weren't in our communities at all. When the raids happened, when our organizing began, we began to show people that not only are migrant families in our communities, but they are whole, beautiful, complicated people who deserve as much safety, belonging and dignity as any of our other neighbors.
Since 2016, JFMF has grown into an organization that centers people's autonomy and dignity. As we respond to political made crises that harm migrant families, JFMF has always centered spaces for joy and connection. From Taqueria fundraisers, children's games, poetry, balloon animals in hotel lobbies at 3am and so much more, JFMF shows with our words and actions that we are all deserving of joy, peace and safety.
In this current political climate, I am proud to be a part of JFMF. I know that my neighbors and friends are more safe and cared for because of the nonstop work that JFMF staff and volunteers do day in and day out. I also know that JFMF is part of building beyond this storm--they are working together towards the future where we are all safe, held and home.
This giving season I am raising $1,000 to support the ongoing work of JFMF. Grassroots fundraising allows organizations like ours to stay nimble, flexible and resilient when other funding streams are iffy at best. Will you join me in supporting the raddest group in town?
