Hi friends!

This has been a hard year for non-profits. Federal grant funding has been limited and grants that used to keep our lights on have shrunk in order to meet the non-profit funding need across the board.

We need your help.

Fit to Recover is a safe space for so many individuals and families to come in, find community, rest, create, move, feel, connect, grow, paint, cook, share a meal, support, be supported, thrive, fall, get back up, laugh, sing, dance, breathe, give, smile, go slow, forgive, and recover.

I found FTR in 2019, I was scared to show up to a place where I didn't know anyone, especially since I was going through a dark time in my life. When I walked through the doors, I was met with open arms. That day I got to meet other strong people in recovery who inspired me and showed me I wasn't alone.

Today, I get to use my experience in recovery and walking through hard experiences to be there for and support people who are beginning their recovery journey. I am a part of a community of people who have been with me since the beginning of my sobriety, and have seen me through the last 5 years. They’ve helped me grow, learn, and move forward. This wouldn’t have been possible without Fit to Recover and the space it gives to people to foster connection, healing, and a life in recovery.

This year, I've been able to step into the Creative Arts space, teaching dance classes, bringing art into the Oxbow Jail, holding art groups for women in recovery, and facilitating an open mic. It's been a challenging and rewarding role, that has motivated me to dance again and explore how it can be a tool for my own well-being and a way to connect people with themselves, their joy, and their community.

As a Peer Support Specialist, I get to hold space for the LGBTQ+ population each week. There is a workout followed by a support group, to check-in with other queer people in recovery. I started this group in September of 2022, and have gotten to see this group grow and individuals make life-saving connections and friendships to support them in recovery.

I have a goal of raising $2,500 this year to help the FTR sustain its impact and continue to support the recovering LGBTQ+ Community, FTR Creative Arts, and the community as a whole.

Thank you so much for donating to Fit to Recover this Giving Tuesday.
