The Being Project's mission is to support the mental and emotional well-being of children by equipping schools with mindfulness-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curricula, Calm Rooms, and educator training—fostering emotional regulation, compassion, and resilience in young minds.
The Being Project supports schools’ therapists, social workers, teachers, administrative teams and, above all, the students by leading mindfulness-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes through our K-12 curricula, creating a culture of self-awareness and collaboration. Our trained teachers lead hands-on SEL lessons, providing 30 minutes of mental health maintenance for each student every week, where students experience connective discussions, mindfulness techniques, and a safe place.
Our vision includes a world where every child has access to the tools and environments they need to thrive—emotionally, mentally, and socially—through mindfulness and intentional self-awareness.
The Being Project addresses the urgent need for trauma-informed, emotionally supportive environments in schools. Many of the students we serve have experienced one or more Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), such as abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence, which significantly impact their ability to learn, regulate emotions, and build healthy relationships. According to the CDC, about 61% of adults report experiencing at least one ACE during childhood, and these experiences are strongly associated with long-term negative outcomes, including poor academic performance, mental health challenges, and chronic health conditions (CDC, 2019).
In low-income communities like those we serve, the prevalence of trauma is even higher due to systemic inequities, housing instability, community violence, and economic stress. Without consistent emotional support and regulation tools, students may struggle to engage fully in the classroom and develop positive peer and adult relationships.
The Being Project creates safe, calming experiences designed to help students self-regulate, build resilience, and feel a sense of belonging. Through repeated mindfulness and grounding practices, students learn how to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and restore emotional balance (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2014).
Our work is not just beneficial—it’s essential to fostering whole-child wellness and long-term success in our schools and communities.
